Mexican food truck Chilakillers opened a stall in the Lenexa Public Market less than two months ago.

Now Chilakillers has closed both its stall and food truck.

The restaurant made the announcement on social media this month, saying “unforeseen circumstances” had forced them to close.

“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your incredible support over the years,” the statement reads in part. “Your patronage, smiles and shared moments have meant the world to us.”

Chef Fernando Borrego opened the Chilakillers food truck in 2022, selling chilaquiles, tacos, tortas, nachos, quesadillas, flautas and other Mexican dishes.

“This is not the end of the journey for us,” the closing announcement added, though the post did not share any more specifics.

Chilakillers could not be reached for comment.

What restaurant will take Chilakillers’ place? That’s “to be determined,” said Denise Rendina, a spokeswoman for the city of Lenexa.

Rendina said she was not at liberty to share why the restaurant closed.

“It was not something they wanted to do,” she said.

Lenexa Public Market, 8750 Penrose Lane, is a food hall that features a handful of vendors, including Cosmo Burger, Cardboard Corner Cafe, and Kimchi and Bap.
