A Kansas City dollar store that has gone without air conditioning for weeks closed Wednesday.

A note posted to the door at the Dollar Tree at 8929 Wornall Road said, “We are closing due to no A/C! Sorry for any inconvenience. MGMT.”

A company spokesperson for Dollar Tree said the store was not closing permanently.

“We are committed to maintaining a safe environment for our associates and customers at all times,” the spokesperson said in an email to The Star. “We temporarily closed the store while we expedite the HVAC repairs. It will reopen once the air conditioning matter is resolved.”

Fox 4 News reported Wednesday that temperatures were nearly 90 degrees inside the building. Employees had the doors propped open because it was cooler outside than inside, the TV station reported.

Dollar Tree announced earlier this year that it planned to close 600 stores across the country in 2024, citing shoplifting and inflation.
