Chuy’s has closed on the Country Club Plaza.

The Tex-Mex chain’s last day of service at 209 W. 46th Terrace was Saturday.

“We have permanently closed this location and apologize for any inconvenience,” read a sign posted on the door Sunday. “We appreciate all our customers and their loyalty to this Chuy’s for so many years.” A similar voice message greets callers to the restaurant’s phone number.

Junk King trucks were parked outside the restaurant Monday morning, with movers loading up furniture and decor.

Chuy’s opened in the former Figlio space on the Plaza in 2013, its first area location. The restaurant serves fajitas, enchiladas, “big as yo’ face” burritos, and house specialties like the Chuychanga and the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo. (Chuy’s ramshackle interior design features shrines to the King.)

An Olathe location opened in 2017 and closed in 2019, and an Overland Park location opened in 2018 and closed during the early days of the pandemic.

Chuy’s started in Austin in 1982. It was sold to a private equity firm in 2006 and began to expand outside Texas in the late 2000s. The company has 102 locations in the U.S., according to its most recent investor presentation.
