What’s up with the Johnson County Chuy’s? Readers want to know when it will reopen

While other restaurants across the metro are still doing carryout and even slowly reopening their dining rooms, Chuy’s in Overland Park is still closed.

The Austin-based Chuy’s opened the location in October 2018 in the Deer Creek Marketplace at 6700 W. 135th St. The restaurant temporarily closed during the stay-at-home order.

But it has not reopened, even for carryout. The location is no longer listed under “Kansas” on the company’s website.

Readers have reached out via email and on social asking about when they will be able to get their Tex-Mex and queso again?

In a statement Thursday, Chuy’s said: “We will continue to evaluate reopening closed locations like Overland Park over the next several months.”

Chuy’s also closed its Olathe location in late 2019. It still has an area location on the Country Club Plaza, which is open for limited dine-in service and to-go.

Founded in Austin, Texas, in 1982, Chuy’s has locations in nearly 20 states. Its menu includes made-from-scratch Tex-Mex-inspired dishes.
