Grandview leadership has wanted a Whataburger for a while now.

In 2020, after the Texas-based burger chain announced expansion plans into Missouri and Kansas, Grandview’s social media accounts declared, “We have a vision for a Flying W (Whataburger) along I-49 right here in Grandview, MO. We can almost taste those golden fries and spicy ketchup. Mm mm mm.”

It appears Grandview’s dreams of breakfast biscuits and dipping sauces have at last come true. Whataburger has purchased the former Applebee’s at Truman’s Marketplace, which closed in 2018. Demolition is underway at the site at 12416 S. U.S. 71 Highway.

The new location is owned by KMO Burger LLC, in which a former Texas college quarterback is a partner.

“Did we mention it’s @PatrickMahomes-owned?” the city posted on its Twitter account last week. “It is.”

A Whataburger representative confirmed the restaurant will open in 2024 but did not have additional details Tuesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterbackand KMO Burger have said they plan to open 30 Whataburgers in the region.
