The fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant Meddys is now open in the former Panera Bread at 6301 Brookside Plaza.

It’s the Wichita chain’s seventh location and second in the Kansas City area.

Owner Alex Harb said Friday the renovation of the space, which features a full bar and seating for 105 guests, took “about 90 days.” It’s a counter service setup: Order at the front, take a number, find a seat.

The menu of shawarmas, hummus plates and salads is inspired by the cuisine in Harb’s native Lebanon. Popular items include the Grilled Grazer shawarma (spiced beef meatballs wrapped in pita with tomato-onion relish and hummus; $10.79) and the Fancy Falafels plate (five falafel patties served with salad, hummus, pita and Spanish eggplant; $11.99)

Hours in Brookside are 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. The restaurant also has a happy hour with 20% off all bar items. That runs Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m.; and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Harb founded Meddys in 2014. The first metro location opened in December in Prairie Village, at 4105 W. 83rd St. Another Johnson County Meddys, which aims to open in March, is planned in Lenexa at the southwest corner of West 88th Street and Maurer Road.
