Openings & Closings

Popular Johnson County bakery closed last year. Here’s the doughnut shop moving in

Duck Donuts, a made-to-order doughnut chain, is opening a spot in Prairie Village’s Corinth Square.

Store owner Ryan McNeil said the new shop at 4002 W. 83rd St. — in the old Great Harvest Bread Co. space — will open in early 2024.

Duck Donuts offers cake doughnuts with a variety of icings and fixings. A few topping options include: graham cracker crumbs, Oreos, bacon and salted caramel drizzle.

The company was founded in Duck, North Carolina, in 2007 and has more than 100 locations across the country.

McNeil opened the first Kansas City area store in 2018 in Ranchmart North, at 3630 W. 95th St., which later moved to Leawood Plaza at 12130 State Line Road.

The new location will be Johnson County’s second Duck Donuts.

“We’ll have the same products, all that good stuff, there will just be a fresh new look to the store, so we’re excited about that,” McNeil said.

Great Harvest operated in the Kansas City area for 40 years before closing its Johnson County spot in May 2022. It still has a bakery in Lawrence.
