Johnson County has been without J. Crew’s cashmere sweaters and houndstooth blazers for more than a year.

The Town Center Plaza location of J. Crew at 5004 W. 119th St. closed in January 2022, leaving a J. Crew on the Country Club Plaza at 519 Nichols Road, and a J. Crew Factory (a separate brand that some fashion writers note comes with a reduced price tag) in Legends Outlets at 1813 Village West Parkway.

Soon, area residents will no longer have to cross county lines for the clothing company’s business casual pieces. J. Crew is trying its hand in the area again — just across the street from its former location.

J. Crew Factory is opening a new spot at 4943 W. 119th St. in Overland Park’s Hawthorne Plaza sometime this fall.

Bailey Driver, a spokeswoman for Lane4 Property Group, said she couldn’t provide a specific opening date.

The clothing store will be sandwiched between Paint Nail Bar and Spruce Home Design.

J. Crew — part of a family of brands including Madewell and Crewcuts — opened its first Kansas City area store at Legends in 2011.
