Update: A spokesperson for Burlington has said the new store will open Friday, Nov. 17, at 9 a.m.

Earlier this year, Burlington closed its Olathe spot at the once grand, now demolished, Great Mall of the Great Plains.

But the department store isn’t ready to give up on the Johnson County city just yet. This fall, Burlington is opening another store at 15335 W. 119th St., in the former Olathe Station Bed Bath & Beyond.

A spokeswoman did not provide a specific opening date, however, Burlington’s website lists its grand opening as Oct. 27.

The store, sandwiched between Kirkland’s and Super Target, is now hiring employees.

Last year, Bed Bath & Beyond announced a mass downsizing, and it shuttered its Olathe Station location earlier this year. Bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy in April and shut its 12035 Metcalf Ave. store in July.

Great Mall of the Great Plains, which housed the former Olathe Burlington, opened in 1997 but dwindled in size until its 2015 closure.

Even as demolition to the mall began the following year, Burlington continued operating.

Today, other area Burlington stores include: 6451 Quivira Road in Shawnee, 12040 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park and 5330 Chouteau Trafficway in Clay County.
