Since it opened in June, lines have been out the door at AR’s Breakfast & Brunch in Overland Park, a Mexican American restaurant serving horchata waffles and chorizo bowls.

So now, owner Oscar Romero is opening a second location, this one in Olathe.

“A month and a half into this location, we knew that we needed to have a bigger location,” he said.

Romero plans to open it the first week of September at 105 S. Claiborne Road, in the former Sonora Tacos and Bar.

AR’s (named after the owner’s middle and last name, Anivar Romero) serves classic breakfast dishes with Mexican flavors, like its churro cinnamon pancakes and fajita omelets.

Breakfast cocktails include sangrias, bloody Marys and mimosas.

Romero said he’s received unparalleled support from the community at his original location, at 8021 Metcalf Ave. in downtown Overland Park, and he hopes the enthusiasm will continue at his new location.

“It was just a spontaneous thing. We decided to one day, and then the next day, we started going on it,” he said.

The new AR’s will have the same menu and hours as its original spot.

AR’s is open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
