Acai berries, mangoes and coconut flakes: Johnson County smoothie bowl shop coming soon
A Minnesota-based smoothie bowl chain is bringing its fruity, granola-filled treats to Johnson County.
Nautical Bowls, which came to Kansas City in the fall at 8250 N. Oxford St. near Liberty, is opening a spot in Overland Park in September at 11648 W. 135th St.
Husband and wife owners Bryant and Rachel Amundson founded the company in 2018 when they were both 24. The shop’s name was inspired by their home state, nicknamed the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.” Today the shop has 50 locations, with dozens more in the works.
The shop offers a variety of bowls and allows customers to create their own — starting with smoothie bases of acai, mango, coconut and more. Toppings include cacao nibs, goji berries or granola and drizzles of almond butter or honey.
Bowls come in 12, 16 or 24 ounces, and prices vary depending on ingredients.
“So many people with health issues are looking for something that’s healthy, quick. … It just makes you feel good,” said franchise owner Dave Rinker.
Rinker is eyeing a few other spots for Nautical Bowls in Johnson County.
Nautical Bowls’ website lists two other soon-to-be locations in the Northland, at Missouri Route 9 and U.S. 169, and at Northwest Roanridge and Barry roads.
