A year after opening in Crown Center, Spokes Coffee Cafe Cyclery has closed.

It took a 1,684-square-foot space on the lobby level of the 2460 Pershing office building for an April 2022 opening. The Filling Station had previously occupied the space.

“Our lease was COVID-friendly based on the return of the employees,” said Dan Walsh, owner. “The employee population just hasn’t returned en masse like it has at our other stores. We had a great group of regulars and loved the space but the density wasn’t there for us to stay.”

Crown Center officials couldn’t be reached for comment Friday morning.

Spokes served breakfast and lunch, including Messenger coffee, pastries, Buffalo grilled cheese sandwiches, Cuban melts, turkey chipotle salads and wraps. Hours were 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

It has two other downtown locations. Another location is in the works.
