This Kansas City area pizza is so popular it will soon have its fourth new location
Erik Borger just opened Pizza Tascio in North Kansas City in January. Now he’s working on his fourth area location.
He took the former Meatball District space at 1806 W. 39th St. and plans to open in mid-October.
“It has a New Yorky feel, small shops, a lot of foot traffic and in the heart of the city,” Borger said.
He opened a restaurant at 1004 Massachusetts St., Lawrence, on Aug. 15, and then in La Paloma Plaza, 6705 W. 119th St., Overland Park, on Sept. 15.
“We’re opening about one a month. Then I’m going to hide in a cave for a while and take a nap,” Borger said with a laugh. “I love what I do, but man it is a lot of work.”
The New York style pizzas include pepperoni, three meat (pepperoni, Italian sausage, salami, oregano, mozzarella and red sauce), cheese, supreme, spicy pepperoni, white tomato, white broccoli, veggie and the Upside Down (cheese first, then sauce, with Parmesan on top).
Pizza Tascio offers a daily special of two slices and a drink for $10 and pizza by the slice for $4 to $5. It also has cheesy breadsticks.
Borger uses Bianco DiNapoli tomatoes and Italian-style double zero flour.
He hopes to get a liquor license for the new locations.
Borger founded Il Lazzarone, an authentic Neapolitan-style pizza shop, near downtown St. Joseph. He brought the concept to the River Market in 2015.
But he sold those locations four years ago to spend more time with his young family. He got back in the restaurant business in April 2021 with his first Pizza Tascio in St. Joseph.
