Incredible Pizza Co., which opened in Shawnee just over two years ago, has closed.

The Springfield-based family entertainment chain took over the former PowerPlay Entertainment Center, at 13110 W. 62nd Terrace, and did a major renovation before the March 2020 opening.

Incredible Pizza officials couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday. But a post on its Facebook page said: “It has been an absolute honor to serve our Kansas City residents! We regret to inform you that our Kansas City Incredible Pizza location is closed for business. We hope that we have created Incredible Memories for yourself, families, and friends.”

It said deposits for birthday parties and groups will be refunded. Game cards are valid at any of the other six locations in St. Louis, Springfield, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Memphis, and Conroe, Texas.

Customers posted such comments as:

“The kids will be so sad to hear this! We will be sorry to see you go.”

“We really enjoyed going to this location. Sad to see it go.”

The Shawnee location had laser tag, bumper cars, rides such as The Scrambler and 4D simulation, and an all-you-can-eat buffet with salad bar, hot dogs, tacos, pastas, pizza and dessert.

But it had nine priority violations during a March 22 routine inspection by the Kansas Department of Agriculture. It had one priority violation during an April 6 follow-up inspection.

PowerPlay, a family entertainment center, previously operated in the Shawnee space. It still has the 50,000-square-foot PowerPlay Metro North in Kansas City, and an employee said they have already received calls from area Incredible Pizza customers trying to reschedule children’s birthday parties.
