Sources: Texas-based steakhouse wants to move in next to Johnson County Hereford House

Houston-based Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille is the unnamed restaurant hoping to build a location at Leawood’s Town Center Plaza, real estate sources told The Star.

Town Center Plaza officials said they couldn’t confirm Perry’s as the tenant for the 12,681-square-foot building proposed for the center’s north parking lot, near Hereford House. They directed questions to the Texas steakhouse.

In a statement, Perry’s said: “Perry’s Restaurants is not able to confirm or share information at this time.”

The Star’s sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to go public with the details.

On Tuesday, Town Center Plaza took the Texas-sized, nameless restaurant proposal to the Leawood Planning Commission, which approved it 6-1. The City Council is expected to decide on the plan in late September or early October.

Officials with the locally owned Hereford House have expressed concerns, saying the plan would “eliminate a significant portion of our restaurant’s parking used by our guests and would drastically and negatively impact our business as well as other restaurants and retailers.”

The proposed restaurant would seat 341 people. Perry’s restaurants typically seat about 350 people, and also have a bar called Bar 79 (the year its first restaurant opened) and patio.

Each piece of meat is butchered in-house and cut to order. Other menu items include spaghetti squash primavera, crusted ahi tuna, crispy skin wild red snapper, salads and soups, and seasonal cheesecake.

It is known for its tableside displays — from carving signature pork chops on hot cast iron plates to preparing flaming desserts. It also features live music.

Perry’s currently has 20 locations in seven states.
