Jack Stack Barbecue opening another Johnson County location soon, with a huge patio

Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue has set an opening date of Sept. 20 for its new Lenexa restaurant, its sixth in the metro.

The Overland Park-based company, now in its fourth generation, substantially remodeled the former Ignite Wood Fire Grill space at 8721 Ryckert St., near Renner Boulevard.

The location will have the largest patio of any of the Jack Stack locations, with awnings and heaters so it can be used spring through fall. The new restaurant will also have an expanded and covered carryout area.

In a statement, Jack Stack CEO Case Dorman said: “We are extremely passionate about the hospitality experience we’ve created around the barbecue we love and feel blessed to be able to share it with our guests who live in the Lenexa area.”

The company has hired about 100 workers for the new restaurant but needs about 30 more servers. It is meeting with prospective employees from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Lenexa location and taking online applications at LenexaJackStack.com.

The barbecue traces its roots to Russ Fiorella, who founded Smokestack Bar.B.Q. in 1957.

Jack Fiorella, his eldest son, worked with his father until 1974, when he branched out with the Martin City restaurant.

When he added another location, he changed the name to Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue. There are now locations on the Country Club Plaza, the Freight House in the Crossroads, Lee’s Summit, Martin City and Overland Park. It also ships its barbecue nationwide.

Like the other locations, the menu at the new Lenexa location will include burnt ends, pork spare ribs, lamb ribs, pulled pork macaroni and cheese, blackberry salmon, barbecue trout, honey-chipotle chicken, spinach salad, wings, and craft cocktails.
