Aloha, Kansas City: Chain plans 4 area restaurants, competes with local Hawaiian Bros

In June, Mo’ Bettahs Hawaiian Style Food confirmed it was entering the market with an Overland Park location.

Now the Utah-based company has confirmed three more area restaurants.

It plans to open at 806 N.W. Missouri 7, Blue Springs (a former Long John Silver’s); 1316 W. Kansas St., Liberty; and at 119th Street and South Strang Line Road in Olathe. The restaurants are scheduled to open in the first half of 2022.

Mo’ Bettahs was founded by two brothers. Kimo and Kalani Mack grew up on Oahu, Hawaii, and opened their first Mo’ Bettahs in 2008 in Utah.

The menu includes teriyaki steak or chicken, katsu chicken, pork and shrimp tempura, all served with rice and macaroni salad, or a tossed salad. It also has guava cake for dessert, and family packs for four or six people.

Mo’ Bettahs offers traditional Hawaiian-plate meals with a protein (including steak, chicken, pork or shrimp tempura), rice and macaroni salad, or tossed salad.

It previously confirmed it would take over the former KFC at 7006 W. 75th St., Overland Park, for an October opening. At the time, the chain hoped to have six area restaurants operating by the end of 2022.

It will be a competitor to Kansas City-based Hawaiian Bros Island Grill, which was founded by brothers who grew up in Oregon and is expanding to more Kansas City area locations in the coming months.
