The landlord for south Kansas City’s Red Snapper Restaurant has filed suit seeking back rent and possession of the space.

It says the pan-Asian restaurant owes $111,197 as of March 12 in rent, late fees, common area fees, taxes, insurance and utilities. It is seeking those funds, possession of the space and damages.

Greensboro Property Co. LLC, landlord for 8430 Ward Parkway, filed suit April 29 against the restaurant, Shunping Yeh of Lee’s Summit, Winnie Shimmel of Overland Park, and Xiu Chen of Kissimmee, Florida. It said the owners signed a lease in August 2015, running through July 2025, for a monthly base rent of $8,683.

Yeh said she wasn’t aware of the lawsuit and declined further comment.

The restaurant serves Thai, Korean, Japanese and Chinese dishes, including a crispy red snapper served intact from head to tail.
