Made in KC to expand with ‘breezy’ Johnson County coffee bar, shuffleboard in midtown

Made in KC has seven cafes and shops across the metro, showcasing locally sourced gifts, apparel, jewelry and other goods.

Now the owners are expanding again.

Their new Outta the Blue is described as a “breezy, West Coast-inspired” coffee shop and bar. It plans to open soon at 5291 W. 116th Place in Leawood’s Park Place. Title Nine apparel formerly occupied the space.

Outta the Blue will have pressed juices, vegan sandwiches, cocktails, beers and natural wines, along with the traditional Made in KC Cafe offerings including coffee drinks, kombucha and chai. Local vendors will include Mattie’s Foods and Parisi Coffee.

Two 12-foot palm trees will be on either side of the entrance, and it will have other greenery by Family Tree Nursery.

It will seat around 60 people at full capacity, but it will open at 50% occupancy in early May per local COVID-19 guidelines.

“We are excited to bring local coffee back to that neighborhood but in a new way,” said Tyler Enders, partner in the midtown-based Made in KC.

Made in KC also is opening several new businesses in midtown in April — Midtown Made in KC Cafe, Ludo’s shuffleboard bar, and a Made in KC shop — all in a redeveloped building at 325 E. 31st St.

The Black Pantry is leasing a space in the building, and Made in KC will staff it for owner and founder Brian Roberts. The Black Pantry has been doing pop-ups promoting Black-owned brands across the county. This will be its first permanent location.

“It’s along the lines of a general store — staples, cosmetics, daily essentials, soaps, oral hygiene, vitamins, hair products, pancake mixes, popcorn, jams, candles,” Roberts said.
