New KC Crossroads spot will be like a NY ‘art gallery but with a restaurant inside’

A new Crossroads Arts District restaurant and bar will also be an art gallery showcasing local artists.

Trident Investment Group took over the former Jacobson’s space, at 2050 Central St., about 10 months ago, planning to reopen it as a hybrid of the Jacobson and Trident’s Parkway: Social Kitchen.

But when a neighboring tenant closed, they took over that spot and will open a new concept in the combined 13,000 square feet.

Society, a restaurant, lounge, art gallery and event space with a “sophisticated edge,” is scheduled to open in late spring.

“It will be like a nice New York art gallery but with a restaurant inside,” said Scott Mars, partner in Trident. “Even the tables will be works of art. Murals will have a society theme — time, love and metamorphosis. It’s kind of fitting when society is going through a metamorphosis. What we are going through now is growth, patience.”

Parkway: Social Kitchen closed on the Country Club Plaza at the start of the pandemic.

Society will have some menu favorites from Parkway and the Jacobson, as well as new items.

It will have patio seating and a dimly lit lounge, the Scarlet Room at Society, serving craft cocktails. The lounge also can be rented as an event space.

Trident also owns Westport Ale House and its underground bar, the Fall, in Westport. The operations are reopening next week after temporarily shutting down in November when tighter COVID-19 restrictions were mandated.
