Plaza restaurant blames permanent closure on ‘loss in business’ from COVID-19 shutdown
The Country Club Plaza’s Parkway Social Kitchen is closing permanently.
A sign on the door of the locally owned restaurant says it is closing “due to a loss in business caused by the COVID-19 shutdown.”
“We can no longer justify continuing operations at this time. ... We have loved our time serving Kansas City, and we want to thank you all for helping to fulfill Parkway’s mission of food with a sense of community.”
The Parkway owners couldn’t be reached for comment.
The owners of the Plaza said they heard from Parkway earlier in the week when its plan was to move from curbside service to catering-only, but they have not had further communications regarding the restaurant’s operations.
Overland Park’s Trident Restaurant Group opened Parkway in October 2017 at 616 Ward Parkway, saying it would have “great food like Houston’s but more interactive, more social and trendier.”
Menu items included turkey apple brie sandwiches, the Parkway cheeseburger on a house-made brioche bread, prime filet, and Ahi tuna.
During the shutdown it has been offering curbside service, along with a 15 percent discount for medical workers and first-responders.
Now known as Trident Investment Group, it lists Parkway, its basement club Scarlet Room, Westport Ale House and its underground bar The Fall as its “creations.”
The sign on the Parkway door also says the company looks forward to serving Kansas City again at “another location in the future.”
Coal Vines had previously operated in the space.
