Lobster, seafood tacos, fish sandwich: Here are 9 Lent specials in Kansas City area
It’s the season to showcase seafood, so area restaurants are rolling out some specials — from fast-food fish sandwiches to honey-chile glazed salmon entrees to lobster with lump crab stuffing.
Lent — when many people give up eating meat, especially on Fridays — started Wednesday and runs until Easter, April 4.
Here’s a sampling of the new offerings for the season:
▪ BRGR Kitchen + Bar, Prairie Village: Fried fish sandwich (cod, American cheese, pickles, lettuce and dill caper remoulade on a potato bun).
Available: Fridays through Lent.
Cost: $13.
▪ Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, Overland Park: Wood-grilled, honey-chile glazed salmon served over ancient grains pilaf with asparagus, roasted tomatoes and grilled corn, and topped with charred corn salsa.
Available: Through Feb. 28 for lunch only.
Cost: $16.95
▪ Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers: Fish sandwich (two fillets of wild-caught Alaskan cod with American cheese and Thousand Island sauce on a toasted bun). The fillets also can be ordered in a fish and chips basket.
Available: Through early April or while supplies last.
Cost: $4.99 for the sandwich, $7.89 for the basket.
▪ Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que: Soft shell crab po’boy with one side dish.
Available: Every Friday through Lent.
Cost: $11.99
▪ Lion’s Choice: Crispy cod sandwich (breaded cod fillet served on a toasted sesame bun with a slice of melted Swiss cheese and tartar sauce).
Available: Fridays through April 2.
Cost: $4.79 for the sandwich or $6.99 for King size with two fish fillets.
▪ Louie’s Wine Dive, Overland Park: Salmon dinner for two people (two salmon entrees and two small house salads).
Available: Fridays through Lent.
Cost: $40
▪ Marco Polo’s Italian Market, south Kansas City: Italian Fish Hero (lightly breaded tilapia, remoulade sauce, onions, lettuce and tomatoes on a toasted Roma Italian roll).
Available: Until April 3.
Cost: $9.95
▪ Stock Hill Kansas City Steakhouse, south Plaza: The “Neptune Platter” for two includes 1.5-pound Maine lobster with lump crab stuffing, four Diver scallops, six jumbo prawn scampi and lobster beurre blanc sauce with a choice of side.
Available: Fridays through Lent.
Cost: $125.
▪ Taco Republic, Kansas City, Kansas: Costa Taco (blackened and fried cod, pico de gallo, pepita slaw, guacamole and cilantro). It also is offering a pack of 10 seafood tacos with queso dip, chips and salsa for carryout only.
Available: Fridays through Lent.
Cost: $4.25 for one taco, $55 for the 10-pack, chips and dip.
Other new seafood menu items:
Popeyes has a new Cajun flounder sandwich with Cajun seasoning, topped with pickles and tartar sauce and served on a toasted brioche bun.
Spin Pizza is rolling out a shrimp scampi pizza with shrimp marinated in herbed olive oil, then layered with spinach, roasted garlic, fresh mozzarella and cheese blend.
