A dozen roses for Valentine’s Day in Kansas City: 12 restaurant deals to-go or dine-in
Over half of U.S. adults plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day, spending an estimated $21.8 billion, according to the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics.
Nearly three-quarters (73 percent) of the consumers celebrating Valentine’s Day this year feel it is important to do so given the current state of the pandemic, which is now nearly rounding out a year in the United States.
Those celebrating can still expect the traditional candy, cards and flowers, according to the survey of 7,882 adult consumers. But there is a significant decline in the number of consumers who plan an evening out — less than one-quarter, the lowest in the survey’s history. It has been conducted since at least 2007.
Still, 41 percent say they will plan a special dinner or celebration at home.
Because of these altered plans, total spending will drop to an average of $164.76 per person, down $32 on average per person, from a record $196.31 in 2020, in the pre-pandemic days, according to the federation.
