JoCo specialty burger restaurant and bar takes down sign and adds a new one: ‘For lease’

The logo for BRGR Kitchen + Bar in Leawood is off the building and a “for lease” sign is up.

OpenTable, an online reservation service, lists the restaurant as “permanently closed.”

A notice on the BRGR website says: “We are closed at our Leawood location. Thank you for understanding, we’ll see you again soon.” Calls to the number listed are disconnected.

Is it closed for good? BRGR officials have not responded to multiple requests for comment on the status of the location at 5031 W. 135th St.

Bread & Butter Concepts LLC first opened BRGR in Prairie Village’s Corinth Square in early 2010. BRGR is the founders’ initials. They later added a location in the Power & Light District downtown.

In 2016, they took over the former Barley’s Brewhaus space in Leawood next to Bonefish Grill.

The menu includes more than a dozen specialty burgers, as well as salads, bowls and “snacks” like Chile fondue and fried pickle chips.

In early 2019, Whitney VinZant, the founder of Louie’s Wine Dive, formed KC BRGR LLC to purchase the three BRGRs, as well as another company to purchase Bread & Butter’s Taco Republic in Kansas City, Kansas.

At the time, VinZant said both of the restaurants “are positioned with a strong family and value orientation. And most importantly the management and staff. They are experienced, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do.”
