Asian pop-up concept featuring KC chefs, different cuisines to make its debut in Waldo

Waldo Thai Place restaurant will host a new pop-up concept launching Sunday.

Keeyoung Kim, owner of Sura Eats in Parlor food hall, created Little Asia KC to showcase area chefs and cuisines of different regions — much like some cities have a Chinatown, Koreatown or Asia District— but this will be in one location, he said.

Customers will be able to order three or four different Asian cuisines at one meal.

“It’s a bunch of friends coming together. I have been thinking about it for awhile, but this whole pandemic has been a kick in the butt to get us moving,” Keeyoung Kim said. “With the whole curbside, why not do it now? Why not do something fun and new for the community at this time.”

The first pop-up will be held at Waldo Thai Place, 8431 Wornall Road, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday for curbside pick-up. If it takes off, the next one could be in the Northland.

The chefs will be offering new dishes not on their current menus.

Keeyoung Kim of Sura Eats: Korean cuisine

Chrissy Nucum of KC Pinoy: Filipino cuisine

Pam Liberda of Waldo Thai: Thai cuisine

James Chang of JChang Kitchen & Waldo Thai: Taiwanese cuisine

And Darrell Loo of Waldo Thai will make specialty cocktails.
