Cajun food truck owners sell for switch to new Southern comfort restaurant in south KC
After Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans natives Mark and Robin Drouin regrouped and relocated, coming to Kansas City and later starting a food truck operation to serve gumbo, jambalaya and other favorites they grew up on.
Now after nine years, they’ve sold Cajun Cabin and are opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in south Kansas City. They plan an April opening for Southern Kitchen at 13135 State Line Road.
Their “home-style comfort food” menu will include chicken and waffles, grilled and fried seafood, fried chicken tenders, po’boys and beignets. They also plan to add a Sunday brunch later.
“We wanted to broaden our reach. So we will serve everything we offered through Cajun Cabin but also some fried foods and eventually some daily specials such as meatloaf,” Mark Drouin said.
Empanada Madness had formerly operated in the space.
