Slow-roasted beef and 25-cent mini cones headed to Waldo? Lion’s Choice has plans
St. Louis-based Lion’s Choice has picked out another KC-area location for expansion.
The fast food chain — which is known for its slow-roasted beef sandwiches — wants to open a restaurant with a drive-thru at 1621 W. 76th St., just east of State Line Road in Waldo.
The development and rezoning plan submitted to the city calls for a 2,300-square-foot building with heavy landscaping along 76th Street.
In a statement, Michael Kupstas, president and CEO of Lion’s Choice, said: “Lion’s Choice is excited to continue growing and adding locations in the Kansas City area, with the possibility of a sixth location in Kansas City, MO at 76th and State Line. Currently, plans are under review, as we work with our potential landlord, Tutera, and the City of Kansas City.”
Lion’s Choice is known for its beef sandwiches, served with a dash of its secret seasonings on a toasted bun. It also has roasted turkey, hickory smoked ham, Italian beef, pulled pork and French dip sandwiches. Other menu items include hot dogs, sides such as baked potatoes and coleslaw, and mini frozen custard cones for 25 cents.
The previous ownership group had a location in Overland Park that closed in 2002. The new owners returned to the metro with an Independence location in late 2018. They have since added locations in Liberty, Olathe and Overland Park.
