Sushi, po’boys and barbecue: New tenants freshen up menu choices at Crossroads’ Parlor
As planned, changes keep coming at Parlor food hall in the Crossroads: There’s a new sushi tenant, and a barbecue is on the way.
Sushi MO! is now open on the first floor of Parlor, in the former Farm to Market Sandwich Co. spot.
Louis Guerrieri and Sarah Nelson said they want to offer both classic and not-so-classic sushi rolls.
The menu includes the Spicy Tuna with cucumber and sesame, and the Ring of Fire with shrimp tempura, takuan, lettuce, spicy black bean sauce and sesame. It also has House Specials such as the Duke of Orange with smoked salmon and honey shoyu sauce, along with miso soup, edamame and gyoza.
Meanwhile, ChickHoovenSwine BBQ plans a March 2 opening on the second floor in the former Buns Up spot.
The Spring Hill, Kansas-based barbecue was founded in 2010 as a catering operation and later added food trucks. Owner Eric Westervelt said the food hall location will offer him a chance to expand his brand without the cost of opening a full-service restaurant of his own.
“It’s a low-risk opportunity and there aren’t a lot of barbecues in the Crossroads area,” he said.
Menu items will include sandwiches (pulled pork, brisket, burnt ends and smoked sausage) and specialty sandwiches such as the Hoggy (slow-smoked pork topped with smoked sausage and house slaw), along with slow-smoked beans, cheesy corn, coleslaw, barbecue nachos and Trash Can Nachos with pork, brisket and cheesy corn.
Another recent Parlor change: Mudbug 2.0 has opened in the former Yaki-Ya space serving “elevated” po’boy sandwiches, Southern sides and more.
Parlor, at 1707 Locust St., is designed so chefs can test out new concepts. They sign leases of one to three years. Some chefs will be able to renew their leases, but after three years they would have to change their concepts.
