Local products to show your Chiefs spirit, from jewelry to candles for ‘Saint Patrick’

It’s not only Kansas City partying like never before the for Super Bowl.

The nation is set to spend a whopping $17.2 billion this year, loading up on food and drink, party supplies and more.

While many fans are loading up on NFL-sanctioned Chiefs merchandise, some enterprising Kansas City retailers are getting in the game with their own offerings, and salons are offering specials.

Beauty Brands: It is running a 54 cent nail polish special in “KC pride colors” of red, yellow, white, black and gold in popular brands such as OPI, limit three per customer. The chain also has an Instagram contest where one winner will receive a dozen free manicures (a $300 value) in a year.

RE: Emporium, in the Crossroads and on the Country Club Plaza, has teamed up with Candle Queen Candles to create a limited edition KC Pride candle — white with swirls of red and gold. They are available for pre-order on the company’s website or in the stores starting Saturday. The candles are $18 each.

Sonshine Sports Apparel on Independence Square in Independence. Two new Chiefs-themed T-shirts: “2020 Miami Bound” and “Fight For Your Right to Party.”

“We are just celebrating with our city,” said Sonshine owner Beckie Fite.. “We’ve always had Kansas City designs, and Independence. But this is extra exciting. An exciting time to be in Kansas City.”

A recent Super Bowl survey of 7,267 adults by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics indicates this may be one of the strongest Super Bowl celebrations yet, with nearly 194 million adults saying they have plans for the big game.

Fans watching the event expect to spend an average of $88.65. About 19% of those surveyed plan to throw a party and 27% plan to attend one.

Food and drink will be the top purchases, followed by team apparel and accessories, new TVs, decorations and even furniture. The NRF has been conducting the survey for more than a decade.
