Customers want to know: Will the Overland Park Subway Cafe reopen? Here’s the scoop

Overland Park’s Subway Cafe put “closed” signs on the window and door earlier this week. That had customers concerned that it was closed for good.

Now there is a third sign that is more specific — closed for repairs.

An employee said there was a break-in early Monday and the cash register was stolen. A computer still isn’t working correctly, she said, and part of the front door is covered with plywood.

The restaurant hopes to reopen this weekend.

A corporate spokeswoman issued a statement: “The restaurant is not permanently closed.” She declined to comment further.

It was the first area Subway Cafe when it opened at 11011 Antioch Road, Suite 100, in June 2015.

Esquire magazine has described the Subway Cafes as Subway’s yuppie stepbrother. The cafes feature leatherette chairs and two order lines — one for sandwiches and one for drinks and pastries.

They have all of Subway’s menu favorites, but also espressos, lattes, mochas, cappuccinos, chai options, hot cocoa, tea and some frozen drink options
