Independence Center updates
Retail news for Independence Center:
▪ Kids Foot Locker, a children’s athletic retail chain offering brand-name footwear and apparel, plans to open on the upper level near Build-A-Bear Workshop and Sears in June.
▪ PINK, a Victoria’s Secret concept offering loungewear and accessories including hoodies, tanks, yoga pants, beauty products and more, had previously been a part of the Victoria’s Secret store. Now it will have its own location on the upper level near Macy’s. A May 1 opening is scheduled.
▪ Victoria’s Secret temporarily relocated while its permanent location is remodeled and expanded into the former PINK space. It plans a mid-June reopening.
▪ Zumiez will move to a new location on the lower level near Macy’s for a March 22 opening. Zumiez carries cutting-edge active wear for men and women, including apparel, shoes and accessories, as well as skateboarding and snowboarding gear from top brands like Vans, Nike and Supra.
▪ The Shoe Department opened in November 2014 on the upper level near Sears.
In other Independence Center updates, Sears said it “recently worked with the Independence Center developer to streamline the size of our Sears store to better meet our needs in serving our members and customers — and their desire to bring Dick’s Sporting Goods to the mall,” said Howard Riefs, spokesman for Sears.
Independence Center officials declined to comment on Dick’s and officials with Dick’s couldn’t be reached for comment. Dick’s has a location just across 39th Street in Bolger Square.
Independence Center, at Interstate 70 and Missouri 291 in Independence, has more than 130 retail stores, including Dillard’s, Forever 21, Sephora, Coach, and Express, as well as restaurants like Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar and Noodles & Company, and one of the area’s largest indoor children’s play area with a full-size carousel.
