‘Hummingbird’ apartments land in Overland Park
Hummingbird Square, a 108-unit apartment building, is under construction in the 65-acre Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park.
The community, open to residents age 62 and older, expects to open the new building in summer 2017.
Tallgrass calls the new structure a “home residence building,” which will cater to independent-living residents. The new building will offer high-end appliances, countertops and tile in apartments that offer 17 different floor plans. Paint, flooring and window treatments may be customized.
Tallgrass is one of 19 retirement communities in 11 states developed and managed by Erickson Living. It opened in Overland Park in 2007 with one building and a clubhouse and has grown in stages. The community now includes assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities.
About 450 residents currently live in the continuing care community.
Hummingbird Square will be connected to the Tallgrass clubhouse by enclosed walkways.
The building’s architect is Colorado-based Lantz Boggio, a company that specializes in senior living facilities. The general contractor is S.M. Wilson & Co., based in St. Louis, which also specializes in senior facilities.
