Partly because of world attention on UEFA European Championship soccer in Paris, RentCafe and Yardi Matrix had some fun comparing apartment rental rates in Paris with those in U.S. cities. In a surprise finding for the Kansas City area, average monthly rates in Leawood were among the most expensive the data sweep discovered in “not so well known” cities.

Leawood’s average apartment rental rate was found to be $1,527 compared to the equivalent of $1,156 in Paris. But, according to the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, the average apartment size in Paris is 334 square feet — a fraction compared to the 1,098-square-foot average apartment size in Leawood.

Big cities like New York and San Franciso command rental rates far in excess of Leawood’s but the apartment data company dug up many lesser known locations that also command hefty rents, including Beachwood, Ohio ($1,767), Issaquah, Wash. ($1,978), and Irvine, Calif., ($2,225).
