Honeywell gets top rating for managing KC nuclear defense plant
The federal government has awarded Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies its highest overall rating for managing the sprawling National Security Campus in Kansas City.
Honeywell received an overall rating of “excellent” for its work in fiscal 2015 based on a performance evaluation released last week by the National Nuclear Security Administration.
The plant, at Missouri 150 and Botts Road, makes non-nuclear parts for nuclear weapons.
Based on the performance review, Honeywell said it received 94 percent of its award fee for managing and operating the National Security Campus. That amounted to $28.16 million of a possible $30 million, the company said.
The fee percentage was the highest among the seven contractors managing security administration facilities during the budget year that ended last Sept. 30, Honeywell said.
The plant has about 2,800 employees.
Honeywell operated the Kansas City plant for many years when it was in the Bannister Federal Complex. Last year, the company finished moving its workforce into the new $687 million National Security Campus.
