Kansas City Southern has promoted Patrick J. Ottensmeyer, its president since March 2015, to the CEO post currently held by David L. Starling, beginning July 1.
Ottensmeyer, 59, joined the railway as its chief financial officer and executive vice president in 2006. In 2008 he became executive vice president of sales and marketing. Ottensmeyer will retain the title of president when he becomes chief executive officer.
Starling succeeded Michael Haverty as CEO in 2010 after serving as Kansas City Southern’s president and chief operating officer.
Starling will remain on the company’s board of directors until May 2017, serve as senior adviser to the new chief executive and retire at the end of December.
