The Unified Government of Kansas City, Kan., and Wyandotte County has sold its downtown Hilton Garden Inn to Fairwood Capital LLC, a Memphis, Tenn., real estate firm, for $8.8 million.

The sale of the hotel, which is connected to the Reardon Convention Center, will allow the government to cover outstanding debt obligations on the hotel and pave the way for $2 million in renovations to the convention center, which the government continues to own.

The Unified Government also signed a five-year management agreement with Brancato Catering to manage the Reardon Convention Center, providing exclusive booking, event and catering services.
