Leawood-based Front Flip, a digital marketing company that works with restaurants and other retailers on rewards and other promotional programs, has been acquired by an Austin, Texas, company.
Shoutz Inc., a marketing, technology and gaming company, did not disclose the purchase price. Shoutz has a Leawood office at 11181 Overbrook Road.
Five Front Flip employees have joined Shoutz and will move to its Leawood office, including chief technology officer Chris Horsefield, a Shoutz spokesman said Friday. Shoutz now has 50 employees.
Front Flip, founded in late 2011, reported last year more than 1.3 million mobile downloads of its digital scratch-off cards used at more than 800 restaurants and other retailers nationally.

Consumers use Front Flip by downloading its app and scanning Front Flip QR codes they find at restaurants, in stores or on product packages, Facebook pages and mailings. The QR codes deliver the digital scratch-off cards to phones or other mobile devices.
The technology allows companies to track customer visits and send out additional scratch cards to reward frequent visits or spark future ones. Consumers also can share scratch-off cards by sending copies to their friends.
Shoutz, among other services, has devised an official mobile app for Powerball and Mega Millions.
“Front Flip is a very strategic acquisition for Shoutz,” Jim Mueller, the company’s chief executive, said in the sale announcement. “This product reaches the core millennial customer that our lottery and gaming clients are looking for.”
Jon Darbyshire, who was chairman of Front Flip, said in the announcement that the sale will allow for “continued deployment of the Front Flip product and expansion of the business.”
