Superior Moving and Storage puts Crossroads property on the market

Superior Moving and Storage said Friday it will relocate to another Kansas City location and intends to sell its 80,000-square-foot building and 1.45 acres of land in the Crossroads Arts District.

Superior president Ceil Lynch said the company’s new location has yet to be finalized but the company’s long-standing real estate portfolio is now on the market.

The properties are on both sides of Walnut Street south of East 20th Street and one block east of the streetcar route. The site is adjacent to the planned Home2 Suites by Hilton at 20th and Main streets. The site is enhanced by its proximity to the city’s new streetcar line that will run on Main.

“This is a big deal for a portfolio of this size to become available in the booming Crossroads Arts District, where millennials are seeking the live/work/play environment,” said Pat Coppinger, senior vice president of Colliers International | Kansas City, representing Superior.

Superior is a fourth-generation, family-owned business that began in 1914. It has been in the Crossroads since 1961.

“We have a lot of history with the Crossroads and we have been able to witness the revitalization firsthand,” Lynch said. “The Crossroads is becoming full of more activity and liveliness, and we realize that our business operations will run more efficiently elsewhere within Kansas City.”

Bob Galamba, senior vice president of Colliers International | Kansas City, said the property is expected to appeal to developers who want to “enhance and be a part of the resurgence of the arts district.”
