Associated Wholesale Grocers reports record sales in 2015

Associated Wholesale Grocers reported record net sales of $8.94 billion in 2015, which resulted in a distribution of $194 million to its shareholders.

The Kansas City, Kan.-based retail grocery cooperative said the year-end patronage to shareholders represented 2.79 percent of qualifying sales. Associated said the total payout was the second highest in its 90-year history in terms of dollars and the percentage stake.

“While the general economic climate and competitive situation in 2015 was not good overall for our industry, AWG continues to deliver strong results for its independent grocery membership,” Barry Queen, Associated’s chairman, said in a statement.

Associated has about 600 member-owners and services more than 3,400 retail outlets in 31 states.
