Hallmark-owned Crown Media reports revenue gain, smaller profit

Crown Media Holdings on Friday reported a smaller fourth-quarter profit but rising revenue that included gains in advertising and subscriber fees.

The company, whose majority owner is Kansas City-based Hallmark Cards Inc., reported net income of $38.9 million in the three months that ended Dec. 31, down from $51.6 million a year earlier.

However, fourth-quarter revenue climbed 18 percent to $158.8 million from the final quarter of 2014. Crown Media posted a 21 percent gain in advertising revenue thanks to viewership growth in its cable networks. Subscriber fee revenue increased 8 percent in the quarter.

For the year, the Studio City, Calif.-based company earned $86.1 million on revenue of $478.7 million. That compared with 2014 earnings of $94.5 million on revenue of $415.6 million.

Crown Media’s programming includes the Hallmark Channel.
