AMC completes Starplex Cinemas purchase

Leawood-based AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. on Wednesday said it completed its acquisition of Starplex Cinemas.

The deal, which was announced earlier this year, was valued at $172 million.

As part of the deal, AMC agreed to sell one theater in Connecticut and one in New Jersey.

Starplex Cinemas had 33 theaters with 346 screens, primarily in smaller markets in 12 states.

With this transaction, AMC will operate 379 theaters and more than 5,260 screens.
