Made in KC brings its local products to the Northland

Made in KC, a locally owned boutique focusing on locally made or designed products, opened a holiday pop-up shop in the Northland in mid-October.

The shop, in The Village at Briarcliff at 4155 N. Mulberry Drive, has done so well the owners are now in final negotiations to sign a permanent lease.

“We wanted to test out that area and we have had a good experience so far,” said Tyler Enders, partner.

Enders, Thomas McIntyre and Chris Harrington opened the first Made In KC shop in Overland Park’s Prairiefire in mid-May, concentrating on vendors making small batches of products. They took a first floor lobby space in the Threshing Bee, a retail boutique collective, at 5501 W. 135th St.

“Products made in Kansas City, that’s what defines us. A lot of the artists reside in the Crossroads or Midtown so we are trying to help them access another market by bringing their works to the suburbs,” Enders said.

One wall of the new Briarcliff shop is stacked with locally printed T-shirts from a variety of vendors including Charlie Hustle, Farmdog Studios, Freelance Brand Clothing and Bumpleft.

Other products include greeting cards by Hammerpress Letterpress & Design Studio, orange patchouli and lavender cedar soaps by Wild Wash Soap Co., candles from 5B & Co. Candlemakers, socks from Sock 101 based in Lee’s Summit, leather earrings from Nickel & Suede in Liberty, prints from ink and watercolor artwork of area landmarks from Art from Architecture, artwork by Midtown Wood Studio (which uses wood salvaged from local homes that are being renovated), along with posters, coasters, blankets and other items.
