Wisconsin-based Mecum Auction Co. holds its second Kansas City collector car event on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The consignment sale will offer about 750 cars and trucks at the Kansas City Convention Center. Tickets cost $20. The company auctions about 15,000 vehicles a year at various events, including two in Kansas City each year.

“The reason we have two auctions in the market is it’s a good market that provides a strong selection for the muscle car market,” said David Morton, manager of communications and event marketing for Mecum.

Featured in this auction are a 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Fastback and a 1971 Dodge Challenger Convertible. Less expensive models tend to be sold Thursday with the “most spectacular” cars coming later in the three-day event, Morton said.

Morton said a third or more of the cars to be auctioned come from the Kansas City area. Vehicles are sold through a consignment process that involves a commission paid by seller and buyer alike.
