Crown Media Holdings Inc., whose majority owner is Kansas City-based Hallmark Cards Inc., on Monday reported higher third-quarter revenue but a small profit compared with a year earlier.

The Studio City, Calif.-based company, which operates the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channels, said quarterly revenue climbed 14 percent to $106.2 million for the three months that ended Sept. 30. Advertising revenue increased 17 percent to $83.6 million, Crown Media said.

However, net income for the quarter was $8.7 million, compared with $14.9 million in the third quarter of 2014. The company said programming and other service costs increased during the quarter.
