Canadian group buys area salt company BSC Holding
BSC Holding, a Mission company that owns a salt mine in Kansas and a de-icing products supplier in Illinois, has been bought by a Canadian concern, Kissner Group Holdings.
BSC’s salt mine, Lyons Salt, and supplier, Central Salt of Elgin, Ill., both serve commercial and government customers, the companies said in a news release. BSC has 95 employees.
The Kissner Group, based in Cambridge, Ontario, also mines and supplies rock salt and other de-icing products. It’s the parent company for the Kissner Milling Co. and operates a salt mine in the Detroit area.
The companies didn’t say what Kissner paid for BSC, whose chief executive, Peter Powell, will be on the board of the combined companies. Kissner’s chairman, Mark Demetree, said with the deal Kissner would be able to “provide a wider range of products across a larger geographic area in North America.”
