EC Manufacturing of Shawnee is laying off 351 workers
EC Manufacturing of Shawnee has filed notice that it is laying off 351 workers.
The company, which makes electrical components and is based at 23501 W. 84th St., opened in 2013 with state incentives and expectations of creating 252 jobs over three years and more than 400 jobs eventually. In return, the company was eligible for $1.76 million spread over five years.
Company officials could not be reached Tuesday. An official at the Kansas Department of Commerce said EC Manufacturing had collected $387,000 in incentives, which the department will take back.
Andrew Nave, executive director of the Shawnee Economic Development Council, said the layoffs account for a majority of the company’s jobs, but he didn’t know whether the business planned to close.
