Southwest will add nonstop from Kansas City to LaGuardia in April

Southwest Airlines in April will add daily nonstop service to New York’s LaGuardia Airport from Kansas City International Airport.

The once-daily flight will start April 8 with a 4:30 p.m. departure to New York, said Justin Meyer, deputy director of aviation, marketing and air service development with the Kansas City Aviation Department. The return leg will depart from LaGuardia at 7:55 p.m.

Delta Air Lines is the only carrier serving KCI with nonstop flights to LaGuardia, Meyer said. In addition, United Airlines provides nonstop service to Newark’s Liberty International Airport, but there are no direct flights to New York’s John F. Kennedy airport from KCI.

Meyer noted that Delta and United used smaller planes to serve the New York area from KCI, while Southwest will offer Boeing 737 narrow-body jets that seat about 143 passengers.

LaGuardia is the 10th-most popular nonstop flight from KCI, Meyer said, and New York is the fourth-most traveled destination as a whole from Kansas City.

Southwest operates 60 flights daily from KCI, the most of any carrier.
