ATM, overdraft fees at record highs — but Kansas City has some of the lowest
Kansas City has some of the lowest fees in the country for out-of-network ATM use and for check overdrafts, an annual survey of 25 big cities says, but those fees still keep going up.
Nationally, according to Bankrate.com, the average non-network ATM fee rose 4 percent over the past year to a record $4.52 per transaction, counting what the ATM operator and the consumer’s own financial institution charge. Those fees are up 21 percent over the past five years, Bankrate’s 18th annual survey said.
Kansas City’s $4.01 average was the third lowest in the survey. Atlanta’s was the highest, at $5.15.
The average overdraft fee, $33.07, also was a record and is up 9 percent since 2010. Kansas City’s $32 average with the fifth lowest in the survey. Milwaukee’s was the highest at $34.79.
