SoftBank official joins Sprint’s board of directors

A former Google executive hired by the Tokyo-based parent company of Sprint Corp. last August has joined Sprint’s board of directors.

Nikesh Arora joined Sprint’s eight other directors, the Overland Park wireless company said Friday. Arora had become the vice chairman of SoftBank Corp. in August after nearly a decade at Google Inc. He also is chief executive of SoftBank Internet and Media Inc.

“We’re very fortunate to have Nikesh join the Sprint board at this important juncture,” said SoftBank chief executive Masayoshi Son, who also is chairman of Sprint’s board of directors. “His broad experience and executive leadership in leading edge technology companies will provide valuable insight and perspective to further Sprint’s growth and overall competitiveness.”
