A noon ceremony Monday marked the beginning of construction on the 17,000-square foot Sarah Cannon Cancer Center at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.

The hospital, part of HCA Midwest Health, will provide cancer diagnosis and treatment services when the $20 million center opens in summer 2016 at 39th and Jackson streets.

Sarah Cannon is the name of HCA’s national cancer care line, launched in 2011.
